Tuesday: Intro to Thermodynamics
Goals of the day - relate magnitude of an equilibrium constant to ∆G;
distinguish between enthalpic and entropic contributions to ∆G; relate
IMF's to distance and ∆H value, understanding of how the hydrophobic
effect is an entropic contribution to order.
Thursday: Lipids and vesicles
Goals of the day - know the nomenclature of fatty acid; identify head groups of phospholipids;
vesicle structure and nomenclature; critical micelle concentration and relation to FA structure; use of DSC
to measure enthalpy of phase transition in phospholipid membranes.
