Pan Cuiyun and Weng Zhengchun

Translation

  1. Pan Cuiyun
  2. Weng Zhengchun

(As I am a student of early imperial history, I confess ignorance as to who Pan Cuiyun [or Pan Cuihong -- see below] and Weng Zhengchun are. The latter may be a Ming ritualist who was ignored by the emperor or a Ming poet, but I do not know how they fit into the public memory. In this painting, Weng Zhengchun was apparently hanged, judging from his protruding tongue and the cord that Pan Cuiyun holds. She also seems to have a cord around her own neck here and in the image below. I would be grateful for any insights.)
