Refining Edits

Track Select Forward: select all the tracks previous to the point clicked. (Selecting edits that are 5min, 1hr long is tough).
Track Select Backward: select all the track after the point
Extract: select in/out and then hit.

It will extract from tracks that are targeted (in this case V1, A1, A2, A3)
Lift: select in/out and then hit

It will lift from tracks that are targeted (in this case V1, A1, A2, A3)
Trimming: select the edge of the clip with the selection tool and drag. Note that you are only moving one edge of the clip.
Ripple Edit Tool: : can shorten or lengthen a clip by dragging on the In/Out edit points on the timeline. It will also ripple shift the rest of the sequence thereby changing the overall length.
Rolling Edit Tool: : trims the Out point of one clip and the In point of the following clip simultaneously.
Slip Tool: : adjusts both the In/Out points in a single clip at the same time.
Slide Tool: : involves three clips. Shifts (slides) the middle clip left or right without changing its length.
Razor Tool: : slice thru tracks and split them into separate clips.

Issue of Timing

Clip 1: Wide-shot of actor walking up to a door and putting his hands on the door handle, opening the door and walking through the door

Clip 2: Close-up of the door-handle. Hand reaches in, turn the handle, opens the door, and actor walks through the door as the door closes

Cut from clip1 to clip2: Aesthetic decision: when do you want the transition to occur?

1. Transition before the person reaches the door
--creates sense of anticipation?
2. On the action of turning the door handle?
-- emotionally neutral and used by documentaries to keep a story moving without making an editorial comment about it
3. After you watch the person walk through the door, the close-up of the door slowly swinging shut
-- perhaps feelling of dread of suspense, horror genre

Applying Effects in PR (Color Correction)

- Effects-> Video Effects -> Color Correction -> Lumetri Color

General directions for applying effects:

1. Locate the effect from the Effects panel (two panels down from the Project panel on the bottom left quadrant)
2. Double click to apply to the current clip or drag and drop onto clip
3. Once applied, locate the Effects Control panel at the top left quadrant next to Source Viewer
4. Change the parameters

Generating text/video

To generate clip of text:

Go to the text tool in the Tools Panel.
Create an area in Prgram Monitor by dragging.
Type in text. This will craete a clip with text.
To change properties, go to the effect control for the clip.

To generate a color matte (solid color)

Finder: File -> New -> Color Matte
