About Math 111 (Calculus)

Math 111 at Reed College is a one-semester course in one-variable calculus. The prerequisite for the course is three years of high school mathematics. Although a knowledge of the basic trigonometric functions is recommended, all of the elementary trigonometric functions are developed in the notes below, and no previous knowledge of them is assumed. Any previous knowledge of calculus is definitely not assumed. A complete list of the prerequisites is listed in Appendix C: Prerequisites of the following notes. You should be familiar with everything in this appendix before starting the course. The notes cover more material than fits comfortably into one-semester. (It would fit more neatly into two quarters), so usually some of the material near the end of the notes gets omitted.
