Inference for the Binomial

The standard inference problems revolve around estimating an unknown parameter, evaluating the precision of an estimate, and comparing different models for the same data (testing hypotheses). For the binomial distribution, the standard estimator is the observed proportion. We will take that as given in the following discussion, to keep the mathematics as simple as possible.
