Here are some links that you might find useful:

ACM's Digital Library: ACM is the Association for Computing Machinery. A large number of major CS conference proceedings and journals, and hence research papers, can be found here. Browse the old, but seminal, issues of the Communications of the ACM for some interesting computer history.

CiteSeer citation index: An automatically updated (like Google) index of research papers published on the web. The service automatically grabs researchers' papers from the web and creates a summary page containing its title, authors, abstract, citations, and the papers that cite it.(!)...an amazing reference.

NSF CS REUs: This is a list of sites hosting NSF-sponsored Research Experiences for Undergarduates. These summer programs pay you to stay at a university for a number of weeks to work with a faculty research advisor on a summer research project. They can be quite rewarding. They are competetive so you'll likely meet a number of interesting undergraduates with shared interests from around the country, and you'll likely work on an interesting project that could inform your thesis year at Reed.

This particular link lists REUs offered in Computing and Information Sciences. As such, I think they are incredibly valuable for a Reed student interested in CS. You will get a glimpse of what mainstream CS research is like.

If you are interested, see me. Applications are usually due in January and Februrary.

See the department page for a list of Mathematics REUs.

Puttanesca: my first contribution to the open source craze. See the added NYT link at the bottom of the page. I highly recommend The Minimalist.

Weird Paul Petrovsky: Please admire the lyrics of "Sucking Chest Wound". Paul is a Pittsburgh legend and lived in the same suburb as my folks do. Long may he live. His sometimes drummer slept on a studio couch during my 4am radio shows. I hope he sleeps better now.
