Abstract:
Scientific evidence has become an important component of
the legal process in many circumstances. Often the evaluation of
the evidence involves probabilistic or statistical arguments.
This will be a largely non-technical discussion of the
analysis done in forensic laboratories such as the FBI crime lab,
with specific examples drawn from DNA profiling and from
the recent National Research Counsel report on bullet lead analysis.
