Testing randomness by recurrent patterns

Abstract: Are the digits in the decimal expansion of the Pi constant
random? In this talk I shall use renewal theory to study
certain recurrent patterns occurring in the binary expansions
of some familiar numbers. I numerically examine the
long-run behaviors of those recurrent patterns and give a
statistical assessment of the evidences of randomness.
