What does it look like if you tile a shape at random (i.e., randomly
choose one tiling out of all the possibilities with a given set of
tiles)? It turns out that some striking large-scale patterns emerge,
including phase transitions and other concepts from mathematical
physics. This talk will feature a number of pictures, and will outline
the geometry and physics that go into analyzing random tilings.
