The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition
The Putnam Exam is a six-hour mathematics exam given on the first Saturday
of December (this year, that's December 6). The exam is six hours long,
broken into a morning and an afternoon session. Each session consists of
six problems worth 10 points a piece, for a total of 120 points. The
median score is approximately zero.
Practice Sessions
There will be several practice sessions leading up to the exam. Students are
welcome to participate in these, even if they are not
planning to take the exam. The practice sessions will be about 1-1/2
hours long.
Schedule
- First meeting: Sunday, September 27, 1:00-2:30pm, L389: warm-up problems, problems.
- Second meeting: Sunday, October 4, 1:00-2:30pm, L389: problems.
- Third meeting: Sunday, October 11, 1:00-2:30pm, L389: congruence
problems for beginners, problems.
- Fourth meeting: Sunday, November 8, 1:00-2:30pm, L389:
problems. (These also come from Queens
University.)
- Fifth meeting: Sunday, November 15, 1:00-2:30pm, L389:
problems.
