Sage for Math 201

Spring 2017
SageMath is a free open-source mathematics software system. Its goal is to provide a a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica and Matlab. CoCalc is a webservice for online computation which includes Sage. It can be used online for free or for a monthly fee (for better resources).

Installing Sage. If you would like to install Sage on your computer, go to sagemath.org, click on "Download", then choose a mirror (probably University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA, is best). Read the instructions and download the appropriate binary. Read the "README.txt" file on the download page for installation instructions. If you need help, talk with your instructor.

Signing up for CoCalc. To start using CoCalc, go to cocalc.com, and click on "Start CoCalc For Free". To open an account, you will need to provide a name, email address, and password.
